Avoiding the holiday from hell. Great tips all families should know

If anyone deserves a holiday this year, it’s you. You’ve worked hard, been stressed to the max and had to deal with a lot in a short space of time. Booking that holiday should certainly be a guilt-free experience.

Unfortunately, there’s now a lot riding on that holiday. You want it to be completely stress-free, enjoy every moment and make plenty of happy memories with the kids. Sadly, not all family holidays turn out the way we hope. And while we can pick up those extra bottles of sun cream that we forgot or replace broken sunglasses relatively easily, some scenarios can quickly turn our dream holidays into total nightmares.

Here we’ll explore how you can avoid the holiday from hell with some great travel tips all families should know.

Nightmare: Your holiday is cancelled

It can happen to anyone but sadly, it’s more likely to happen these days thanks to Covid-19. If your holiday has been affected by the global pandemic, it’s not easy to know where you stand, which is why Creditfix has created this simple and straightforward infographic, detailing your rights and your potential options.

Just because your holiday has been cancelled doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t get the relaxing break you deserve. Whether you get a refund or are provided with an option to rebook, don’t delay. Make your choices as soon as possible so you can get the ball rolling.

Nightmare: Bad weather

You might be heading somewhere that’s renown for its sunshine and blistering heat. It’s why you booked it, right? However, it would be wrong to assume that you’re going to only experience the weather you saw in those online resort pictures. Before you travel, check the weather forecast for the days you’ll be visiting and then pack accordingly. It will also allow you to plan your days and activities better and prevent further disappointment.

Nightmare: Losing your passport

It’s every traveller’s worst nightmare! However, if you take extra precautions before you travel, then if the worst does happen you’ll be covered. Making extra copies of your passports and storing them in separate places will give you peace of mind. You should also leave a copy and home and consider having a digital copy downloaded onto your phone.

Nightmare: Your bankcards won’t work!

Whenever there’s suspicious activity in our accounts, it’s reassuring to know that our providers will freeze our cards and stop any further activity. However, when you’re using your card abroad and it suddenly won’t allow you to make any further transactions, it could be for the above reason. Before you travel, let your credit or bank providers know that you’re heading overseas, and they can expect to see some activity from your destination. However, always be in the habit of checking your account whilst abroad in case someone has cloned your card or stolen it without you noticing.

And finally,

Nightmare: Roaming charges!

Uploading to social media, booking tables at restaurants, Google Maps, video calling your parents back home. Using our phones on holiday is a must. However, avoid coming back to thousands of pounds worth of roaming charges by making use of (secure) wi-fi, and changing your plan via your provider before you travel!
