Family travel – tips for the perfect vacation

Family travel can go one of two ways – the way you want it to go, or the way it usually goes. Today, we’re going to look at smooth family travel. But first, traveling to tourist hotspots can mean exposure to roads packed with tourist drivers who don’t know the area, which can result in road accidents – speak to a car accident lawyer (based in Toronto) if you or your family is affected.

Reserve tickets for daily excursions

Playing things by ear in terms of your daily itinerary is quite possibly the fastest way to ensure that your vacation is spent arguing over what to do each day, followed by setting out late and not making the most of your time. Look up what attractions are in the vicinity. There may be a water park. There may be tours and restaurants. There could be a theater where the whole family could catch a show. Whatever is available, book online before you arrive.

By booking everything in advance, not only are you certain that you won’t be turned away from booked up venues, but you will also ensure that your family has a day to day plan by which they can order their minds. This stops arguments. This stops clashing opinions from finding problems with planning. This gives you a framework.

Do your research on the local laws

This is only going to be a brief mention because, of the near 200 countries in the world, laws and by-laws and local culture and the rules and expectations over behavior vary widely. Make sure you know the kinds of things that differ from what you’re used to, so that you don’t accidentally get into trouble abroad – the last thing you want is to make an honest mistake that lands you with a fine, or worse.

Fully charged tablets, headphones, and portable chargers

It doesn’t matter how you choose to travel (by boat, by plane, by pack mule, or by bike with a tent on your back), there are going to be delays. Even if human intervention doesn’t get in the way at some point, the weather is one thing that you can always count on to slow things down. With all that potential waiting around for your travel plans to resume, you’re going to need entertainment.

A fully charged tablet, complete with a backup portable charger and headphones is half the battle. Make sure you have pre-loaded the device with games or movies, as you can’t always guarantee that there will be free wifi wherever you are stopped (and you also can’t guarantee that the signal will be sufficient even if there is free wifi).

Take snacks!

You’re not the first person to be hit by hunger while traveling. The food and drink industry knows this. To make sure that you don’t get away with your hunger or thirst without paying extortionate prices, vendors of light refreshments have conveniently made sure that you can access their goods at captive audience prices inside airports and train stations etc. Take snacks to avoid the steep prices.
