Pests Are Not Pets – They Have To Go

Unfortunately, if you own a home, an office building, or an apartment, pests will get into those dwelling places. Many pests are seasonal and others are year-round annoyances. The question is, do you make getting rid of them a DIY project or do you use professional services? Either way, it is important to keep pests from taking up space in your home because they can cause illnesses or allergies, especially with young children. They can easily cause damage to the structural integrity of your home.

Pests are a health hazard depending on their species. For example, rats or mice enjoy raiding our food cabinets leaving behind the waste which is filled with germs and bacteria. Roaches do the same thing only worse. It is a proven health fact, that roach droppings cause unhealthy allergy symptoms. Spiders bite and if you live in an area where spiders with poisonous bites reside, this is dangerous. An additional problem with pests inside the home is that they are never alone. Before you know it, you have an infestation.

4 Pests That Invade The Home

Remember that the pests that you find in your home really live outdoors first. Let’s look at the 5 biggest pests that can invade the home:

A.Ants: there are different species of ants, but the type you generally find in the house is possibly the sugar ants. If you see one ant, the colony is hiding somewhere. They are waiting for that scout to return to the nest so they can invade your kitchen to bring your food back to their nest which is somewhere in and around your home. Ants don’t cause structural damage but their waste can leave salmonella bacteria in your food supply.

B.Cockroaches: cockroaches can eat anything. They eat wallpaper paste and glue, they eat your food in the pantry, they eat paper, they eat plastic, and they eat fabrics. Not only will you see cockroaches but you will also see their feces. Cockroaches in the home are an infestation. They will nest and crawl all over all your appliances. They nest in your appliances or inside wall circuits which also damages the wiring. Cockroaches can cause food poisoning from the waste they drop and which can quickly pile up on your shelves.

C.Millipedes: Occasionally I find a millipede and I wonder, where and how did it get inside my home. They like damp places but they are harmless. I just always wondered how they got in when I find them dead and all curled up. Millipedes enjoy damp soil, so if you have plants in your home, they will seek the dirt and soil to lay eggs.

D. Spiders: Spiders are a common pest inside any dwelling. They also rule the outdoors. There is a myriad of spider species, but not all of them want to enter your home. Most spiders found inside the home are harmless and only their webs that you bump into are a nuisance. There are some, however, that be quite dangerous. Spiders can move through cracks, holes, doorways, windows, they can hitch a ride on your clothing, or if you leave your door open too long. Recently, my home fire alarm went off and the fire department could not find out what happened. I found out that a spider was building a nest inside my alarm system. Spiders are an unwelcome pest, especially since they can lay eggs in the hundreds.
