While your kid’s education is the utmost importance to every parent, there are plenty of skills learnt outside the classroom which are just as important. While good grades will get your kids into college, there are plenty of things they can do outside of the classroom that will benefit them in the future too. Things like learning a new skill, joining a club or team, or taking up a new interest of theirs, will help your child develop in so many ways. Things, like being a good team player and learning how to work hard and win (as well as lose!), are all really important life lessons for children to learn. Here are a few suggestions of things your kids can get involved with outside the classroom, that could benefit them in so many ways.
Join a Sports Club
Sports clubs are great fun and amazing ways to learn outside the classroom. Not only will your kids be running around and tiring themselves out ready in time for bed they will learn some things about working with others and working hard that often can’t be taught in a classroom. If your child does not enjoy school or sitting still for long, then this could be an area that they thrive in. Turning up to practice and practicing drills is a great way to improve and learn new things too. Working as a part of a team is a very transferable skill that is key to being part of any social circle. This is also a great skill to put on their CV in the future, so what have you got to lose? Consider getting your child swim lessons, inquire about joining a soccer team or see if they like horseback riding.
Learn New Skills
As well as sports teams there are lots of other clubs and organizations your child could get involved with. There are many useful skills that they could learn too. Maybe your child could learn about surviving in the wilderness and all about bushcraft. Perhaps they want to learn how to craft things from wood or how to paint and draw. If your child expresses an interest in these, encouraging them can be the best option. Even though they might not use their knowledge of bushcraft in the future, the dedication it took to learning skills is very transferable. You never know the opportunities or benefits that could come from learning outside the classroom.
Keeping your child interested in things outside the classroom is very healthy. Being involved in a sports club not only is great for their health, and getting them to go to bed each night without a fight, but they can learn lots of other skills too. Working with others to achieve a common goal is the kind of social skills that just can’t be learnt in a classroom. Make sure you encourage your children to get involved with clubs and teams outside the classroom as they could learn so many things that could benefit them in the future.
