It’s no secret that the vapor from Vaping is much cleaner than traditional cigarette, pipe or rolling tobacco smoke. The dangers associated with children passively smoking cigarettes is well known and documented from asthma to meningitus. So far, the only reported side effects of second hand inhalation from e-cigarette smoke is a slightly irritated throat. But why will switching from tobacco to vaping make such a difference to your life, and the health of your family?
Cigarette Smoke vs Water Vapor
What a strange comparison to have to make! But as both contain nicotine, they are grouped into the same category. Cigarette smoke contains over 4000 chemicals and toxins, many which change as they are burnt, causing chemical reactions and creating new compounds which are then inhaled deep into the lung tissue where they are absorbed by the body.
Around 80% of cigarette smoke is wasted and goes directly into our environment, polluting the air around us and damaging the health of our families. Only up-to 20% is inhaled and ‘filtered’ by our bodies.
Water vapor from vaping is mostly absorbed in the mucous membranes of the mouth, meaning the nicotine is absorbed more efficiently and reached your blood stream quicker. Other chemicals released are negligible and based on which brand and strength of e-cigarette liquid you chose to consume. Nasty juice is a favorite of ours as it has a clean flavor and minimal additives.
With e-cigarettes, there is minimal vapor released directly into the environment, as the dosage is controlled by the consumer with the touch of a button. Vapor that is exhaled by the consumer has had the majority of the nicotine absorbed into the blood stream, and a cloud of relatively harmless, sweet smelling water vapor exhaled quickly disappears without much of a trace.
E-cigarettes as a Medicine
In the UK, e-Cigarettes can be prescribed for free on the NHS for medicinal purposes, namely giving up smoking tobacco. There are no serious side effects to vaping, but the side effects of tobacco smoking are well known and can be fatal.
In 2016, 79,000 deaths were attributed to smoking in the UK (up from 78,000 in 2014), with an estimated 474,000 further hospital admission for smoking related illnesses. The number is not insignificant, with approximately 19% of the UK now classifying themselves as smokers.
There are no recorded deaths from vaping, and many people have successfully given up tobacco using e-cigarettes who found that traditional patches, gums and inhalers were not effective.
Why Make the Switch from Tobacco to Vaping?
Compared to smoking tobacco, vaping is safer in every way for you and your family. Provided that you keep your juice out of harms way from children, then the potential for harm is extremely minimal with vaping. We all know how dangerous and gross cigarette smoke is, even if we smoke ourselves. Making the switch can’t do any harm, and will improve everyone’s quality of life.
