In 2007, my husband and I made one of the biggest decisions ever about our daughter’s education. We decided to pull her from kindergarten and home-school. While deep in my heart, I knew this was the best for our daughter, my anxiety gave me a run for it. I worried daily on whether it were the right choice, I worried if I had what it took to home-school her and my biggest fear was she learning at her grade level.
While our journey began rocky, we slowly smoothed the road, and I learned for my daughter’s sake I had to get a hold of myself. I learned that as long as my child was learning and excelling then there were no right or wrong when it came to her learning.
Over the years we have tried several different curriculum’s, the current one focuses on reading, writing and math. While we don’t do a lot of testing, I want her to be prepared if she does continue with her education past high school. With having worked with the Carson-Dellosa workbooks in the beginning of our daughter’s education, I was glad to see at 7th grade they have test prep and practice books.
Carson-Dellosa and Spectrum Test Prep and Practice are grade specific workbook series. They’re designed to help children prepare for standardized tests and teaches them to become successful test takers. The workbooks teach children how to budget their time and gives them helpful techniques so they can avoid those common test taking mistakes.
Carson-Dellosa Publishing Group was founded by teachers and has a 35-year history as the leading supplemental education provider for teachers, parents and students.
With always worrying if Gillian is learning at her grade level it was great to have a workbook based on the Common Core Standard to test her smarts on.
I honestly don’t know what I was worried about when it came to her learning, she was breezing through the workbook like it was nothing.
One thing I have learned through-out our home-schooling journey, is children are smarter than we tend to give them credit for, Gillian, is often grabbing the workbooks and doing them on her free time.
When I asked Gillian what she liked best about the books, she said she loves the tips the books give. She says she has learned a lot from the books and knows how important it is to reread her work when she does her writing assignments to make sure she hasn’t made any mistakes.
One thing I like about the workbooks, is I can check Gillian’s work once she completed it with the answers in the back of the book. This allows me to see that my child is where she should be in her learning and lets my mind have a little more peace.
While the 2014/2015 school year is almost complete, I know going into 8th grade we will be including Carson-Dellosa test prep and practice workbooks into our school year, I think as a home-schooling family this will benefit Gillian with her learning.
Whether you’re a home-schooling family like us, or if you’re a parent wanting to give your child a little extra learning help Carson-Dellosa workbooks would be a great supplement to your child’s education.
