How many of you take some sort of prescription drug? How many of you don’t have insurance and have to pay out of pocket for your medications? I am on two different medications, one the insurance covers the other one my insurance doesn’t cover it. Why they don’t cover the second one is beyond me, but luckily, I have a discount card attached to my pharmacy account, or I would be paying double for that medication.
I don’t know how many times, I have gone to pick up my meds, and the person in front of me is having to pay cash for theirs, no wonder we in America live off credit cards. One day the total for an elderly lady in front of me was over $3,000 granted that was for almost three months, BUT $3,000 is a bit much.
I don’t know about you, but I can almost bet that price that it takes to make those meds is a small fraction of that bill. Did you know there are companies out there, that can help you cut your prescription costs in half! Take www.tcds.com, this is a Canadian drug-store and you would have to have a prescription in order to take advantage of the savings.
However, let me give you an example of the price difference. Let’s take Celexa, other name is Citalopram, this is a med for depression, if you were to get a 20mg script here in the states you would pay roughly $4.07 a pill!!! Through The Canadian DrugStore you would pay about .63 cents a pill, that is a savings of $3.44, talk about insane.
If you don’t have insurance and you’re paying a ton for medications you need, you might want to look into other alternatives on where to purchase those pills.
Unfortunately the drug companies know that Americans have deeper pockets than those in other countries. The Canadian government has price control on drugs because of their healthcare laws. When I was traveling in Belize, many drugs we buy thru Rx here are over the counter and much cheaper. We pay a lot for FDA control and standards.
And it is sad, because we as in Americans really don’t have the deep pockets that some think, and health care is insane.
