First Year of Teaching Made Easy

Becoming a teacher is a challenging task for anyone. Your first year of teaching will generally be the toughest simply because you’re still learning the ropes, figuring things out, and finding your place in your school. There are a few things you can do to make your first year of teaching a fantastic one.

First off, make sure you decorate your classroom. Make it a friendly, comfortable place that your students look forward to spending time in. Consider hanging posters, placing pictures on the walls, or even decorating with streamers and balloons for the first week of school. You may also choose to post educational or informative posters that your students can use to reference ideas that you’re learning in class.

Another important thing to remember is to choose your lesson plans carefully. Consider using common core lesson plans or another curriculum you feel comfortable with. Make sure you understand the lessons ahead of time so you don’t encounter questions or problems while you’re actually teaching. Most of all, make sure to plan out appropriate quizzes and to come up with some discussion questions. The right types of questions will get your students interested and engaged when you’re teaching and that’s one of the most valuable parts of being a teacher.
