When it comes to the lighting of your home have you ever thought about going with fluorescent lights? Did you know that fluorescent lights are 4 to 6 times more efficient than your standard light bulb, and they throw off a lot less heat! We currently have fluorescent lighting in our daughter’s bedroom.
I would love to get it through out the house, so not only am I helping the environment, I am also helping my electric bill. This last month our bill hit an all time high of $234! Ouch is what I said when I opened it, I wasn’t a bit happy. I need to find ways to help me reduce my light bill, so that I can use the money I save on other things, such as my daughter’s education.
One thing I have noticed with using fluorescent light bulbs in my daughter’s bedroom is they last longer, and are cheaper then your standard light bulb. I have only had to change my daughter’s light bulb in her room twice in the past 4 years, and that was only due to the light being left on.
Now the lights in the kitchen those are a different story, we are always having to change them. I know many people get the standard light bulb because they’re cheaper, but if you think about it they’re far from cheaper. Sure you can get a 4 pack for a dollar, but how often are you changing it, and how much more electricity are you using. We often tend to go with the cheaper things in life, but in the end even though their upfront price is cheaper, their over all price is more.
What type of lighting do you have?
I agree. As an electrician in Springfield MO, I completely agree with your perception…. energy-saving lightings may be more expensive but if you’re going to think about it, changing those regular bulbs we usually use from time to time is far more expensive.:)
We save more money not only on our electric bill, but also on the light bulbs. It is amazing how much one will save by spending a little more.
