For some, that means a staycation. For others, it’s a chance to get out of the country.

What if you’ve never traveled before, or are reluctant because the last time was so disastrous?

Read on to for a few essential tips on traveling with kids.

Travel Needs

Now, there are a lot of things to consider when traveling with a family. Some of these are obvious things most parents forget about when worried about being prepared or packing in the most amount of fun.

1. Packing

Packing is an essential thing for every traveler, in particular when you are packing for a whole family.

Most families tend to overpack. Don’t do this. It adds more weight for you and your poor partner to manage.

When packing, do pack essentials like organic ingredients baby food/formula. Airlines will allow this but read their policies before you get to the airport.

A well-packed bag is possible with preparation.

2. Luggage

Now, you might not have any young enough for a stroller, but you might. If you are traveling with a stroller or car seat, check these at the airline.

Save yourself the hassle!

3. Research

Speaking of preparation, especially if you’re considering international travel with kids, do your research. Such as possibly getting a jet card! What is a jet card you ask… it allows you access to search for private jets to use. For some, this is a better option.

Make sure when doing your research that you check out the Official Resort Site. Often you can find some great deals on the official site for the resort, or you could even contact the resort to see if they have any promotional deals or discounts that they can offer you.

There are plenty of great websites and family-friendly tour destinations, like Singapore, for example. On top of the natural beauty in this country, the Gardens by the Bay Flower Dome is a great place to visit.

4. Prepare (Give Yourself Time!)

Now, to feel and be prepared, and to make sure you’re not over or under packed, and that you’ve researched your destination, don’t rush.

This means you should pre-book as much as, and whenever possible. If your kids are old enough to provide input, let them.

Talk about the trip so they feel included, instead of dragged along on you and your partners’ adventure.

5. Discounts

If you’ve done your research and planned, you’ve probably already considered family or child discounts.

If you haven’t, make sure you ask about these!

6. Don’t Worry

Even if you have prepared and researched for the trip, don’t expect everything to go exactly as planned. With kids in tow, adventures naturally follow, so things will inevitably be different than expected.

7. Where You Stay

Ideally, you’re at some sort of hotel or resort with built-in breakfast (this will cut costs). If not, you’re at an Airbnb or other rental situation where you can make your meals.

This is one of those critical cost cutters–if you’ve managed to plan.

8. Fly or Drive?

If you are traveling internationally, driving is usually out of the option (unless you’re nearby a few other countries). If you do have a long distance to go, fly.

Most youngsters don’t have the stamina for several days in the car, and the last thing you want is a grumpy, tired family by the time you reach your destination.

9. Change It up

Don’t do the same thing every day. This means, if you did prepare, you’ll already have planned different activities for different days.

Changing it up will keep things fresh on your family trip.

10. Routine

If you let your kids run wild on a vacation, they will run wild. Good luck keeping them in check, then.

Now, your routine might change for a trip, but your kids need structure, and you’ll be much happier if you hold them to some sort of routine.

11. Have Fun!

The more important thing on a trip is having fun. If you’re not having fun when traveling with kids, something’s wrong.

Kids make a trip that much more interesting, and certainly worth traveling around the world for. (I hear Singapore’s great this time of year!)
