Some Things for You and Your Friends to Do on a Slow Weekend

From time to time, even the most dynamic, exciting, and creative group of friends are bound to draw a blank when thinking of what to do on an upcoming weekend or holiday.

This isn’t too surprising — as people, we tend to fall into fairly predictable ruts in terms of our behaviour. For some of us, this means that our social lives revolve entirely around going to the same pub, getting drunk with the same people, and feeling the same doubts and hangover pains the next morning — on a weekly basis.

For others, it can mean that we and our friends attend the same gym or club, and occasionally do a movie night or barbecue.

Whatever the case, sometimes we all need a few routine-busting ideas at hand t keep life interesting. So here are a few things you should do with your friends next time you’re all bored and out of ideas.

Visit an escape room

An escape room is like being in your very own, personal detective or spy novel — or occasionally something more like a horror film.

The idea here is simple. In an escape room, you and your friends are locked into a particular area, with a theme and storyline, and you all have a set amount of time to figure out what’s going on, identify various clues and secrets, and achieve the steps necessary to get out of the room.

Themes can range wildly, and the more serious escape room companies will allow you to choose from a list of tailor-made experiences. Maybe you’ll be an art thief, or someone who has been kidnapped by a maniac and needs to escape?

In any event, an escape room can provide a great opportunity for you and your friends to have some laughs, get some adrenaline flowing, and see how you’d fare if you’d been the cast of your own thriller.

Go out for a camping and hiking trip

Camping and hiking may not be the first things that come to your mind when considering a way to spend time with your friends, but there’s good reason to put your reservations aside and give it a go.

Camping — especially when combined with an ambitious hiking or kayaking route — is a way of getting back to the basics of life. It’s a way of stripping back the mess and stress that normally clutters your lives, and being able to breathe in some fresh air and get some exercise together.

When you go for several days in a row, trekking from place to place, and telling stories around a roaring campfire at night, you’re likely to find yourself feeling completely rejuvenated in short order. There should be ample opportunity for some good conversations, too.

Join some class together

Ever wanted to learn how to dance, do yoga, play the guitar, or practice a martial art? Well, if you have at least one friend who shares that interest, joining a class together can be a brilliant way to expand the borders of your friendship and embark on a new hobby together.

Not only will you both be able to keep each other motivated, but you’ll also open up new doors of opportunity for future events and hobbies down the line. Perhaps what starts as singing lessons today will turn into a band tomorrow?
