Disclosure: I received product for review purposes only, no other form of payment was received.
My daughter and nieces love making bracelets, so when I got the email asking if we would be interested in checking out FriendlyBands Sunshine loom, I had to say yes. Before I agreed to do the review, I asked my daughter if it would be something she was interested in, she responded, no.
However, I knew it would be something she and the other kids would love, so I went ahead and said yes. When it showed up, I made sure to let my daughter know the Sunshine Loom was MINE. I mean after all she said she wasn’t interested in it.
So what exactly is the SunShine Loom? Well, in 2011 a young girl named Jessica, who was only 8 at the time had an idea. After making 100 bracelets for a fundraiser to help someone raise money for a family member who had cancer, she decided to start up her own business and this is when FriendlyBands was born.
Like other kids Jessica loved making bracelets. She loved making them so much she decided to make her own loom. She decided to call this the SunShine Loom. The SunShine Loom would be the first and only circular loom created to weave those rubberband projects. The SunShine Loom became available in December of 2013 and is so easy to use even 5 year olds can do it! What makes the SunShine Loom different from other looms is the fact you only need one loom to make multiple row bracelets.
With never having made a band bracelet before, I had to see how easy or hard this was going to be. My 8 year old niece came over to visit and we decided to give it a try, since my daughter said she didn’t want it and all.
There’s three different kits, we received the SunShine Loom Craft Kit. This is their basic kit and it gives you everything you need to get started. The kit comes with instructions on how to make certain designs, however, after about 5 minutes my niece and I discovered paper instructions were not for us.
Thankfully, FriendlyBands know that some people don’t do well following instructions on paper and they offer lots of how-to videos. I couldn’t let the kids know I was a newb so I ended up making the X FriendlyBands bracelet first. Let’s just say, even after watching the video I had to take this a part a few times until I finally figured it out! Guess I should have went with an easier design first.
Because I am a newb I used different colors so that I didn’t mess up to bad. While we were making this my 8 year old niece kept saying “Gillian, I cannot believe you didn’t want this.” Needless to say, after my daughter seen how fast I was making the bracelets she changed her mind.
I then went on to make an infinity FriendlyBands.
And to show them just how awesome mom is, since the kiddo and nieces said I couldn’t do it, I proceeded to make a “Starburst” bracelet that they make with the rectangle loom. I had to proof to the kids I could, my niece attempted and failed, my daughter said there was no way I could make it with the SunShine Loom because after all it’s round…
You can make tons of different things with this loom, I have not ventured down the road of making animals, because well those look a bit complicated!
