When cold weather strikes we often times end up sitting inside with kids screaming how bored they are, even though I am sure I could list a million in one things they could do, for instance wash dishes, do laundry, clean their rooms, extra school work, read a book and so forth.
However, if you mention those things to the kids, I am sure you will also hear the same thing I hear “I am not THAT bored”. One thing I like having on hand in the winter months is craft items, you can NEVER have enough craft items in the house. When kids start screaming how bored they are, you can break out the craft box and allow their imagination to soar. Not only does this get rid of boredom but it allows your child’s brain to be creative.
I love getting my craft supplies from Oriental Trading. Not only do they have a large selection of craft supplies, they also have some great deals. Recently, we were sent some fun craft items to help keep the boredom level down in our home during winter break and I have to say my daughter and nieces had a blast.
We ordered some DIY Shutter glasses, foam princess shapes because all girls love everything princess, cute wiggly eyes, containers, crayons, fimo and mod podge.
When it comes to creativity, my daughter is full of it, she will watch youtube videos and come up with some of the weirdest creations. She has always loved baking clay and I knew this would keep her going for hours. A few years ago when she first started playing with fimo she took a garbage pail kid card and made Grillin Greg!
Now that is some talent!
Creativity in this family doesn’t stop there though, once we had the nieces all over we got the crafts out and we let them have some fun.
If you’re like me and dislike hearing “I am bored” every 5 minutes, I recommend you head over to Oriental Trading and stock up on some craft items that you can break out when the kids seem to have nothing else to do. If you’re not that crafty, Oriental Trading also has some step by step instructions on how to make certain crafts.
Not only does crafting allow the child to get creative, it also allows parent and child to bond. My daughter is 13 and the bonding time never stops, I know she only has 5 years until she is 18 and a young adult and I want to spend as much time with her now as I can. Crafting also allows for some quality family time, which in this house is a must.
With Valentine’s Day just around the corner now is the time to get those Valentine’s Day craft items and let the kids hand out handmade Valentine’s this year.
What are somethings you like to do when the kids scream they’re bored?
