I have been a huge ABC Soap fan since I was about 10 years old. My mom would record them on VHS and after dinner we would lay in her bed and watch them. So when they announced a few years back that they were canceling All My Children and One Life to Live I was rather disappointed. Now that I have a daughter we to loved laying in bed getting our daily dose of soaps.
However, since they canceled the shows, I have been sinking myself into General Hospital! A lot has happened in the past few years on this show, I am not sure if it’s for the good or the bad, I can only hold and hope it’s all for the best. Rumors keep going around that General Hospital is the next one on the chopping block.
Whether this rumor is true or not, I am not sure, I hope it isn’t because General Hospital has to be my favorite out of the three soaps, I guess it’s because it’s the one I would always run home from school to watch.
Since the cancellation of All My Children and One Life to Life, General Hospital has taken main focus to all of us Soap lovers. Some have even stopped watching General Hospital because of all the comings and goings, and the twists in the storyline. I happen to love all those twists, but I am not so happy about the goings.
So what has been going on over the past two years on General Hospital?
Goings
Julie Marie Berman has left the part of Lulu and Emme Rylan will be taking her place. You may recognize Emme from her time as Abby Newman on The Young and the Restless. While I am sad and unclear why Ms. Berman decided to leave the role of Lulu Spencer, I wish her the best of luck in everything she does.
Lindsay Morgan who plays Kristina Davis has also made the announcement that she too will be leaving General Hospital. I am not certain if they will recast the role, Lindsay is the third person to play the part of Kristina Davis.
Brandon Barash who plays Johnny has also decided his time on General Hospital should come to an end. I have since learned Brandon will be making a guest appearance on Bones! If you want you some more Brandon be sure to tune into FOX April 15, at 8:00 pm EST. Did you also know Brandon and Kirsten Storms are dating!
Kimberly McCullough who plays Robin Scorpio decided she wanted to move on with her career and she has been directing. While she does make an appearance on General Hospital her main focus is no longer the role of Robin. While I was sad to see Robin go at first, I am glad they have opened up the way for Patrick and Sabrina! I love these two on the show! I am not a big fan of the whole Britt and her mom storyline, I can only hope the writers know what they’re doing.
Erik Valdez who played Trey Mitchell. While Erik wasn’t on the show long I always loved seeing him on the TV. There was just something about him that I loved!
It has been rumored that Scott Reeves who played Steve Webber was let go. While I am not sure how true the rumor is, Scott Reeves is no longer on General Hospital. When I learned of him leaving the show, I also learned that he only lives about an hour from me! How neat is that!
While I am sure I missed some that have left, and while it’s sad to see people who we have grown to love leave. We know that sometimes we have to move on and explore other things in our lives. You are probably about to say, HEY SHE MISSED THE BIGGEST DEPARTURE, no I was saving that for last, because I feel it was the one that hit all the fans the hardest.
Steve Burton left the role as Jason Morgan. The writers over at General Hospital have not re-casted the role, I am not sure if they’re planning to or not. When Steve announced he decided to leave the role of Jason Morgan it was hard on all of his fans. His reasonings for leaving were to spend more time with his family. He no longer wanted the live in California, him and his wife had a home built in Tennessee, and he was wanting more family time. If you noticed Jason was a big part of General Hospital.
While we all understood family time is important and when you play a role for so long, you can get burnt out and need a break. While we all hoped Steve Burton was only taking a small break, it was announced he was moving on to The Young and the Restless. I think this is the sting that hurt his fans the most, they felt as though Steve had lied to them.
The role that Steve is now playing is less demanding on him.
Another loss to the General Hospital fans was John Ingle who played Edward Quartermaine. Mr. Ingle passed away Sept 16. 2012 of Cancer. John will be greatly missed as Edward!
To be continued with the Comings…
