Have you ever heard that saying opposites attract? Most often, those that are best friends are very different in many ways. This is the case in the story FELICITY AND CORDELIA: A Tale of Two Bunnies.
FELICITY AND CORDELIA: A Tale of Two Bunnies by Lisa Jahn-Clough (FSG/Feb 2011) is a sweet tale of friends who are very different. Felicity likes adventures, while Cordelia prefers to stay home. When Felicity sets off on a hot-air balloon adventure, Cordelia stays home and bakes pies–and tries not to worry. This is a lovely story about staying friends in spite of–or perhaps because of–being different.
I love books that teach children that it is okay to be different, and it is okay to be friends with someone that is different then you. In today’s time children are all too often taught to judge, we can say it is not true, but I have personally seen this, when my daughter was in public schools.
We as parents forget what makes people unique are their abilities to be different. I know I do not want my child liking or disliking something just because that is what her friend likes or dislikes, I want my daughter to be her own person.
In this story Felicity was the dare devil, while Cordelia was the stay on the ground type person. My husband and daughter are the Felicity type, while I am Cordelia type, my daughter jokes about her and daddy flying to places and me driving.
Our children grow as we mold them, we as parents have to remember to let them mold into their own person!
